During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, designers showcased their brilliant visions for the Spring 2011 season. While most of the world tuned into shows like Marc Jacobs, Gucci, and Michael Kors, a niche group noticed the beautiful pieces from London designer Molly Grad for the Israeli-based line, Gottex. I must say, swimwear never gets old to me, and I absolutely adore this collection. It's reminiscent of the 40s and 50s when swimwear was more than just the bathing suit. It was a cape or flowing sarong, high cut briefs or bikinis, and of course the beloved headpiece. I love how they revamped the headpiece where it looks like a turban but once the model turns, it's actually a tied visor. It just exudes royalty but in a modern way. With frills, high waists, and crystals and sparkle, these pieces are sure to catch anyone's attention. And Victoria's Secret supermodel Karolina Kurkova was a great choice to work the runway. Here are a few pieces from the collection.

I told you the Queen of Drama would get her own section. Surprisingly, of all the outfits that Lady Gaga has worn, I actually liked her costumes tonight. Maybe I'm just becoming numb to her in-your-face, outlandish sense of style because she does it so much. Or maybe it's because she was so humble receiving each of her awards. Or maybe it was just the makeup and the hair. Either way, she just seemed like a young, pretty girl (I can't believe I just called her pretty) who wanted to dress up as various princesses from mystical kingdoms. Although the last outfit had her covered in meat (like that on the cover of Japanese Vogue), she just seemed peaceful. Taylor Swift said it best, "You're still an innocent."

Chinese literature began with record keeping and divination on Oracle Bones. The extensive collection of books that have been preserved since the Zhou Dynasty demonstrate just how advanced the intellectuals were at one time. Indeed, the era of the Zhou Dynasty is often looked to as the touchstone of Chinese cultural development. The Five Cardinal Points are the foundation for almost all major studies. Concepts covered within the Chinese classic texts present a wide range of subjects including poetry, astrology, astronomy, calendar, constellations and many others. Some of the most important early texts include I Ching and Shujing within the Four Books and Five Classics. Many Chinese concepts such as Yin and Yang, Qi, Four Pillars of Destinyin relation to heaven and earth were all theorized in the dynastic periods.
Notable confucianists, taoists and scholars of all classes have made significant contributions to and from documenting history to authoring saintly concepts that seem hundred of years ahead of time. Many novels such as Four Great C lassical Novelsspawned countless fictional stories. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, Chinese culture would embark on a new era with Vernacular Chinese for the common citizens. Hu Shih and Lu Xun would be pioneers in modern literature.

A friend and I attended an invitation-only party at a bar in Hell’s Kitchen (New York City) and had an interesting fashion conversation. A guy approached me and said he loved my bag. I was carrying my much loved Matt and Nat handbag, so I took the compliment well (check their site on a regular basis for sales!! www.matandnatt.com). He proceeded to say how women are so lucky, “women can dress anyway they want; they have accessories, bags, and shoes.” This is true. As a woman, I believe our fashion choices are infinite and unlimited. We often stretch the limit and go beyond the horizon though. This is where the line must be drawn.
Some women do well when they put together an outfit in the morning, while others, hmm. You just go too far. I am going to proceed and provide a few suggestions regarding style. I have to air some things out. There are things that people do that simply should not be done. I do wish the Fashion Police were reality. Forget parking tickets, the government would make a lot more money. Lets try to visualize some easy creations that quickly become simple disasters.
Mixing too many different styles. Picture wearing plaid shorts with a polka dot shirt. You see how this image looks horrific in your mind...good. Keep thinking about things that do not belong together. If you wear an animal print dress or top, you do not have to wear animal print shoes, purse, and accessories. This is called over-kill. I would suggest wearing a shoe with one color that does not conflict with your top or dress. You do not want to have your top or dress in competition with your shoes. Your shoes should compliment your clothing; it should complete your outfit. If you must wear the animal print shoe, make sure it matches well. I recall going to Fish Eye Bar and Grill in Brooklyn, New York and seeing too much leopard. She looked more like a real animal than a sexy kitty.
Rocking that hair. The options women have for hair are innumerable. Hair goes hand in hand with clothes, just in case you thought discussing hair was left field. Just take a look at some Mercedes Benz Fashion Week runway shows. Hair is a big deal, literally. Short is becoming the “It” style, courtesy of Ms. Rated R (Rihanna) and others. Her hair stylist does deserve credit. But the blond may have been a bad idea (without proper upkeep). Women of color, you have to be careful, otherwise we will notice. This was made quite apparent in her Russian Roulette and Wait Your Turn videos. Try to avoid adding any direct heat, such as a curling iron or flat iron, to freshly bleached and/or colored hair. Wait at least 3 weeks. Beyonce needs all the help she can get … always tossing around her high priced weaves, but needing a touch up for her edges.
Being too scandalous. Yes, it is okay to be sexy. "Sex sells," doesn't it? This statement is true beyond belief. But, lets not use this as our sole mantra in life. I have seen far too many women do the wrong thing. Just because you are, what I like to call myself, "Slim and Trim" does not give you the right to be the poster girl for all skinny chicks. You can be classy and sexy at the same time. Why do I have to see your breasts and booty in the same outfit? Show your cleavage, but the cheeks too? Come on ma, you are doing too much. This goes for big girls too. Sorry. Some things do not look good in every size. There are things that only look fabulous on a shapely woman, and vice versa. Just because you are big does not mean you cannot kill a dress. I have seen it done. I send applause to one of my favorite sisters on this one.
Wearing the right socks. This is the last point I will make. It is a little off-kilter, so think of it as an added bonus. Calling all Men: Black shoes should never be worn with white socks. Please. Not even with sneakers or boots. If you wear black Timberlands, your white socks become orange at the heel. Therefore, do not take off your shoes in public. If you are wearing a suit, just throw on some black socks, or put on socks the color of your inside shirt. Men are the number #1 criminal when it comes to this fashion faux pas, but women, you are not excused either, get it together.
Ladies and gentlemen, do everyone a favor and look in the mirror before you leave the house. Ask yourself, would your mother approve your outfit. If you are wearing white socks and black shoes ... and if your mother does not mind, do not take her advice anymore.
